British Airways Plane Had to Make an Emergency Landing due to a ‘Burning Smell’ in the Cockpit
Blueway Limited, Kebbell House, Suite A9, Carpenders Park, Watford, Herts. WD19 5EF, United Kingdom (PRWEB) July 28, 2014 -- Last week on Thursday 3rd July 2014 a British Airways plane was forced to make an emergency landing at London Heathrow Airport after a burning smell was discovered in the cockpit. The flight was destined for Istanbul, Turkey but suffered a technical fault shortly after takeoff. There were 185 passengers on board, none of which were injured but they were obviously startled as emergency landings do not occur very often. Fire fighters were called to the airport and were on high alert for when the plane landed. The aircraft landed safely and was fully inspected before it was allowed to depart for Istanbul again. Technical faults are extremely difficult to identify even though routine maintenance checks are carried out before every flight. Luckily the problem was identified quickly and so it did not cause much disruption or delay. The passengers on board flight BA 676 were only subject to a minor delay and so would not be able to EU flight delay compensation.(http://www.flightdelayrefunds.com/how-much-claim.php)
Passengers are entitled to claim flight delay compensation if they arrive at their destination 3 hours later than scheduled. There are many different reasons as to why flights are delayed. The CAA found that 90% of EC 261 claims are due to technical defects. If a technical defect is discovered whilst passengers are on board the aircraft then they can sometimes be forced to wait on board the aircraft whilst the repairs are carried out. Repairs could take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours depending on the severity of the damage. In some extreme cases, new parts may be required which could mean an even longer delay. This could mean that the flight is rescheduled for the following day. Technical and mechanical faults are generally the reasons why passengers have to endure such heavy delays. Airlines are not putting passengers through this for the fun of it they are simply ensuring that the aircraft is safe before anyone can fly. Airlines are fully responsible for the safety of their passengers until they reach their final destination, which is why these safety checks are so important.
Don’t forget that you can always claim for flight delays. According to EC Regulation 261/2004 you could be entitled to claim 250, 300, 400 or 600 Euros worth of flight delay compensation for your loss of time. Airlines tend to put up a fight and do not give compensation away very easily but with the help of a flight delay refunds company such as Blueway Limited http://www.flightdelayrefunds.com you will have the best chance of success. Companies like Blueway have represented thousands of passengers and know exactly how to go about the claims process.
