Broadway comes to San Marino! Direct from the 2005 Tony awards, Monty Python’s Spamalot is a an up beat, high energy, hilarious musical that is sure to be another huge success for San Marino High School.

Following the legendary King Arthur as he quests to bring together the best and brightest in the land to sit at the round table, San Marino High School’s musical draws students from the entire campus. An all-school musical allows students who normally don’t get a chance to participate, to be on stage. Always packing about 60 students on stage, the actual number of student involvement is closer to 10% of the school’s population, when you count the stage crew, the student orchestra members, the art students and all the volunteers who help pull it all together. San Marino High School believes in allowing its students to drive the production and the students are most definitely the ones running the show.
The musical is based on the original 1975 movie, Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail, which came out the same year director Blake Williams was born. She literally grew up watching Python with her dad, and she hopes that the silly lyrics, the fun characters, combined with her interpretation will truly impress local audiences. “It still has the traditional favorites that everyone has come to know and love, like the SPAM Song, the Black Knight, a killer rabbit, and the coconuts. But I have added a few things like tap dancing trees, new knights, and some comedic moments for today’s high school audience. Any time you expand a show from a cast of 20 to 60 some changes have to be made. Hopefully I have been able to blend the best of Broadway into our community production“ Blake explains.
