Broncos, Packers, Bengals, Vikings, Falcons, Celtics, Thunder, Nuggets, Pistons, and Bobcats All Up for Bids On Texas License Plates
Austin, TX (PRWEB) December 17, 2013 -- Will the Celtics sell for more than the Rockets? Will Packers fans bid higher than Cowboys fans? We’ll see in the MyPlates.com Mascot Auction going on right now at http://www.myplates.com/auction.
Compare the current bids for out-iof-state teams to those of Texas teams already sold at auction: ROCKETS $16,500, COWBOYS $11,500, TEXAN5 $4250, RAIDERS $2000.
27 million Texans are not all going to cheer for Texas teams. So, here’s to you, Packers Fan in Plano. Vikings Fan in Victoria. Here’s your chance to be the one and only Texan with the full spelling of your favorite team written right across your official Texas license plates. The MyPlates.com Mascot Auction is open for bids until http://www.myplates.com/auction.
Opening bid for each plate is only $500, so get your bids in by December 18.
This is the first time Broncos, Packers, Bengals, Vikings, Falcons, Celtics, Thunder, Nuggets, Pistons, and Bobcats have ever been available on a Texas license plate, and it could be the last. The winners of the MyPlates.com Mascot Auction own their plates for a 10-year term, with first dibs on renewing the plates after that. The winners also have full rights to transfer or sell the plates to someone else.
By law, only a Texas license plate sold at auction by My Plates can be transferred. However, if the winners of the Mascot Auction plates choose never to sell and instead hand the plate on to heirs, the plates might never be available again.
That means this may be the first and only time these coveted plate messages are available for sale.
These ten plates have never been available before because only six letters were allowed on personalized plates in Texas until 2011. When the State made seven letters available, MyPlates.com reserved these plate messages for auction, understanding such highly sought-after plates have tremendous potential to raise money for the State of Texas.
The personalized plate, 12THMAN, set the record for the highest price paid for a Texas license plate with $115,000 paid at auction in September 2013. HOUSTON is the second highest, auctioned for $25,000 in January 2013.
Since November 2009, Texans have purchased more than 172,000 My Plates, putting more than $20.5M in the general revenue fund, which helps pay for services for all Texans.

TERMINOLOGY
-“Specialty” plate refers to any official license plate other than the state’s general issue plate.
-Specialty plates can be “personalized” plates, but they don’t have to be.
-My Plates and TxDMV use only “specialty” and “personalized” to refer to these plates, not “vanity,” which is pejorative and lacks accuracy.
