Brookhaven Retreat Celebrates Mindfulness Week With a Call to Self-Care
Knoxville, TN (PRWEB) August 21, 2014 -- Women have many distinct responsibilities that often include prioritizing the needs of friends, family and others above their own. In doing so, a woman can feel like her life is on autopilot, running one errand to the next, without ever taking time for herself or even stopping to take a breath.
The week of August 17-23 is Mindfulness Week in Brookhaven Retreat’s 12-week dialectical behavior therapy cycle. Throughout the week, women work on becoming more aware of the thoughts and habits that cause life to feel routine and automatic. Brookhaven Retreat’s extreme self-care class is held weekly and resets a woman’s habitual routine by stimulating all five senses and exploring the price of neglecting needs.
Mental health issues including mood disorders, substance abuse, depression and anxiety can have a devastating impact on a woman’s sense of self-worth; and over time she may lose interest in caring for her physical and emotional needs altogether. This time of relaxation and self-love builds a woman’s self-esteem, and increases the respect and value she gives her self. As she becomes more empowered, she is able to define and rediscover her distinct needs and wants, creating an emotionally and mentally healthy life.
Brookhaven Retreat understands that women have different needs than men, and being mindful of these needs is vital to mental and emotional wellness. Throughout Mindfulness Week in August, Brookhaven Retreat encourages each woman to be mindful of the impact that neglecting her needs has on mental and emotional wellness by taking time out to nurture the body, heart and mind.
