Brookhaven Retreat Conducted a CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training by Staff Member Anastasia Main at the Knoxville Airport Hilton on December 9, 2015
Knoxville, TN (PRWEB) December 22, 2015 -- Brookhaven Retreat® LLC, a unique residential treatment facility exclusively for women with mental health and/or substance abuse issues, recently held a Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training for Brookhaven Retreat’s staff members at the Knoxville Airport Hilton on December 9, 2015. The training was conducted by Anastasia Main, Program Counselor, Certified Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Instructor of Brookhaven Retreat.
According to the Crisis Prevention Institute website, “CPI was established in 1980 for human service professionals to address the need for training in safe, respectful, noninvasive methods for managing disruptive and assaultive behavior in a way that is compatible with staff's duty to provide the best possible care.”
Main, who obtained her CPI certification as a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Instructor this year, says, "Brookhaven Retreat chose to implement the CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training to ensure our staff is prepared to safely handle a crisis situation. CPI's internationally recognized program teaches staff to intervene in a way that provides Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security for all involved in a crisis situation. This standard coincides with Brookhaven Retreat's mission to provide a safe, non-punitive environment for our clients to heal."
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training was developed in the 1970s to provide a balance in behavior management. “The company co-founders' human service experience and backgrounds in kinesics, physiology, and communication contributed to the development of an innovative, holistic system for defusing escalating behavior,” the site says. “Since their inception, more than 10 million human service professionals globally have participated in CPI training programs to learn proven strategies for safely resolving situations when confronted by anxious, hostile, or violent behavior, while protecting the therapeutic relationships with those in their care.”
In 2011, Main applied her background in direct care and joined the staff of Brookhaven Retreat. Since then, she has received training in dialectical behavior therapy, relaxation, mindfulness, mood disorder, personality disorder, and treatment resistant anxiety. She is a native of east Tennessee, and a 1997 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a BA in Psychology.
