Brookhaven Retreat Receives JCAHO Gold Seal
Knoxville, TN (PRWEB) April 14, 2015 -- In 2012, Brookhaven Retreat volunteered for a survey by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and recently had their Gold Seal renewed during the inspection process.
Brookhaven Retreat offers a unique voluntary residential program of mental health and substance abuse services designed to help women overcome depression, trauma, anxiety, personality disorders, and substance dependence among other diagnoses.
Jacqueline Dawes, founder, says, “It’s of the utmost importance for us to be compliant with the Joint Commission for the sake of everyone involved in our efforts, but especially our clients. Accreditation provides a structure for handling risk and increasing our quality wherever necessary. It creates accountability, helps us do our job to the best of our ability and gives us the faith that we are serving the public well.”
In 1951, the Joint Commission was founded and designed to improve health care for the public. Both an independent and not-for-profit organization, the JCAHO is the nation’s oldest and largest health care monitor. Through the process of evaluating organizations such as Brookhaven Retreat, health care workers and their administrations are inspired to provide the safest and most effective, high quality care possible. They currently evaluate and accredit more than 20,000 organizations in the U.S.
Earning and maintaining The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ requires organizations like Brookhaven Retreat to participate in an on-site survey by a survey team at least every three years. The survey is challenging as it determines the success level of an organization’s standards, safety and quality. Brookhaven Retreat’s first accreditation became effective April 7, 2012. This will mark their third nationally recognized accreditation, which will be valid for the next 36 months.
During the survey process, staff members are interviewed, the facility is closely observed and documentation is reviewed. JCAHO standards and expectations are matched up with Brookhaven Retreat’s level of performance and evaluated accordingly.
The JCAHO Vision Statement is that “All people always experience the safest, highest quality, best-value health care across all settings.”
With their Gold Seal in place, Brookhaven Retreat is proud to meet that expectation and bring their vision to life.
