Brookhaven Retreat Welcomed Second Alumnae Visitor in November
Knoxville, TN (PRWEB) November 26, 2014 -- On November 21, Brookhaven Retreat welcomed its second alumnae visit this month. The alumna, who completed Brookhaven Retreat’s 90-day program, shared her personal road to recovery with women seeking mental health and substance abuse treatment.
The Alumnae Share Time began Friday at 10am. She explained how Brookhaven Retreat was the beginning of her recovery journey that allowed her to understand her past does not define her, inspiring women to not only get well and but also stay well. The alumnae addressed questions on what life is like after discharge, and how to conquer the everyday challenges that undoubtedly arise. She also discussed the importance of continuing therapy and staying involved with the aftercare community has been in her personal recovery.
Brookhaven Retreat encourages women to return and offer a realistic view on maintaining recovery and making progress once she transitions home. This preparation and advice empower women to protect their health even as they face day-to-day challenges that inevitably occur.
Brookhaven Retreat understands that getting well in a residential setting is hard, but staying well for a lifetime is harder. To help women maintain their recovery and ensure a smooth transition home, alumnae are encouraged to be active and stay involved in its comprehensive alumnae program that includes an interactive website, weekly calls and an open-door policy.
The bonds forged between women struggling with similar issues such as substance abuse, mood disorders, grief and trauma remain a valuable support system long after women discharge from inpatient care. Visits from alumnae offer personal insight into a woman’s recovery who has been in their shoes, can relate to their emotional pain, and be an avenue for support and encouragement.
Brookhaven Retreat is a walk for life, and is thrilled to celebrate the successes of each alumna as she transitions home and continues her journey toward lifelong wellness. Both clients and staff enjoy these alumnae talks as they offer advice, friendship and hope to the women currently seeking treatment in its facility.
