Bruno Broglia Gavi del Comune di Gavi DOCG Is Official Wine at G20 Summit
(PRWEB) October 23, 2013 -- Renowned Piedmont producer Broglia presented its Bruno Broglia Gavi del Comune di Gavi DOCG 2011 vintage as the official wine of the G20 summit in St. Petersburg. The Italian white was accompanied by a Bordeaux red that was served in a secondary role at working lunches, while the representative Gavi was served at the official dinners for heads of state.
The honor solidifies Gavi’s important role outside the borders of Italy. Seventy percent of Gavi DOCG’s production is sold abroad, and Russia is one of these important export markets. The strong presence of Gavi in foreign markets fits into a larger trend of Piedmont wines making their way abroad.
Gian Piero Broglia, owner of Bruno Broglia, is also the acting president of the consorzio di Gavi and sees the honor not only as a compliment to the quality levels his estate has pursued, but for the category as a whole.
“This result is important not only for our company, but for the entire territory of the appellation and for the made in Italy wine brand,” said Broglia, “We would like to share this success with all the people who made this possible and that have given prestige to our viticulture on the world stage.”
Broglia wines are imported in the United States exclusively by Vias Imports Ltd.
About Broglia
La Meirana’s roots in winemaking date back over a millennium and is currently a 250 acre estate with more than half the land planted with the native Cortese variety.. The Broglia family acquired this historic estate in 1972, two years before the area received the designation of Gavi DOCG. Now a third generation family business, Broglia safeguards its oldest vineyards, which date back to the 1950s, thanks to the unique calcareous marl soil that allows the vines to have an extended lifespan. However, in the winery, which was renovated in 2000, the best of modern winemaking techniques are used to continue and elevate the tradition of Gavi. Their efforts have been rewarded with recognition as one of the top Gavi producers on the international stage. Broglia family estate, established by Bruno Broglia, is managed today by his sons, Gian Piero and Paolo, who continue the winery’s ultra-millenary tradition.
