Brutal Playoff Battles Boost NHL on BuyAnySeat.com
Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) April 19, 2014 -- As the winter chill posts a welcome retreat, fierce season finales are also flaring up on ice arenas across the country. Wednesday marked the start of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, nine weeks of fast-paced, hard-hitting high-stakes hockey.
The prize is one of the greatest in all of sports, Lord Stanley's Cup. While every modern professional sports league becomes more captivating at playoff time, the NHL's postseason offers something truly spectacular for hockey fans.
Of the first seven contests played in this year’s tournament, five were won by just one goal. Three games ended in overtime, one game ended in triple overtime while the 14 teams combined for 53 goals scored.
“The heated start to the NHL Playoffs has fed ticket sales around the country especially for the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins and other playoff contenders,” said Marta Ault at online ticket marketplace BuyAnySeat.com.
“That’s why we’re proud to offer fans the most complete and continuously refreshed selection of sports tickets online, with a worry-free guarantee to protect their purchase,” added Ault.

After trailing the defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks late in regulation, the St. Louis Blues rallied for a 4-3 victory in triple-overtime of Game 1 Thursday night. Chicago was within one minute, 45 seconds of jumping to an early series lead when the Blues’ Jaden Schwartz tied it up in the third.
Alexander Steen eventually notched the game-winner 26 seconds into the third overtime period as the Blues snapped a six-game losing skid that ended their regular season. The Blues faltered down the stretch and gave up first place in the central division, and now face a difficult road to the finals through the defending champion Blackhawks. They will play this afternoon in St. Louis before heading to Chicago for Games 3 and 4.
In another thriller Thursday night, Paul Stastny scored 7:27 into overtime to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Wild. Head coach Patrick Roy made the risky decision of pulling goalie Semyon Varlamov off the ice in favor of an extra skater with 3:01 remaining in regulation. Stastny rewarded him by tying the game with 13.4 seconds left, before also adding the game winner in overtime.
The Avalanche will play again at home tonight before traveling to Minnesota next week. Also on the slate today is Game 2 of the Pittsburgh-Columbus matchup. The Penguins erased a two-goal deficit to overcome the Blue Jackets for a 4-3 win Wednesday. Columbus will look to tie the series before returning home for two games next week.
Last year’s Stanley Cup playoffs ended with three overtime finishes in the last six games, the kind of neck-and-neck battle of which legends are made. The series between the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks began on June 12 and lasted until June 24 and was the first Stanley Cup Finals series between two Original Six teams since 1979, and the seventh since its first expansion in 1967.
In Game Six of the Finals, trailing the Bruins 2–1 with 76 seconds left in the third period, the Blackhawks scored two goals in 17 seconds to close the series 4–2.
In last night’s match-ups, the Tampa Bay Lightning played Game 2 against the Montreal Canadiens and the Anaheim Ducks hosted the Dallas Stars, while the Boston Bruins faced the Detroit Red Wings. Results were unavailable at press time. As mentioned earlier, top games today are all second games in the series for each team with St. Louis versus Chicago, Pittsburgh versus Columbus and Colorado playing Minnesota.
