Brutality Case against Prince George’s County Police Officer Settles
Upper Marlboro, MD (PRWEB) November 19, 2013 -- Local law firm, Wilson & Parlett, announced today that a lawsuit filed against a former Prince George’s County police officer and Prince George’s County has settled for an undisclosed amount. The lawsuit alleged that a former Prince George’s County police officer, Michael Rowe, assaulted and unlawfully detained the Plaintiff, Ascene Jacques of Springdale, MD on the night of January 7, 2012.
The lawsuit alleged that on January 7, 2012, Officer Rowe and several other officers had stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic infraction on 91st Street. Jacques and his son were walking home and walked near the officers who were conducting the traffic stop. As Jacques and his son were walking by, Officer Rowe allegedly yelled at Mr. Jacques and assaulted him by grabbing him and throwing him on a police vehicle. Officer Rowe then placed him under arrest and began to transport him to jail. During the transport, Officer Rowe changed his destination and took Mr. Jacques to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Mr. Jacques suffered injuries, lost property and was confined to the hospital for approximately 18 hours during the unprovoked incident.
The case was scheduled for a jury trial to begin on November 4, 2013 in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County. Public information regarding case number CAL12-25184 can be found here.
