Bucks hosts visit from Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire (PRWEB UK) 18 December 2013 -- Iain Duncan Smith MP, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, paid an educational visit recently to Buckinghamshire New University.
The Minister visited the University’s High Wycombe Campus to meet with members of the Senior Management Team and to see some of the innovative work linked to student employability that the University performs.
He was given a tour of the Campus to see specialist teaching sessions taking place in the film and TV production, and audio and music studios, before visiting the University’s policing simulation rooms to observe policing students perform and analyse a criminal investigation scenario as part of their coursework.
The Minster met with students, and also heard about the University’s work in the areas of criminal justice and social studies, as well as its Institute for Diversity Research, Inclusivity, Communities and Society (IDRICS).
Iain Duncan Smith said of his visit: “I was very impressed with what I saw at Bucks New University and could see the value of the contribution that the University makes to the local community, economy and industry.
“I was particularly interested in the University’s policing courses and its partnership with Thames Valley Police, which ensure that the teaching of students is directly linked to the skills required in today’s working world. This model of teaching is echoed across other courses at the University and I was incredibly impressed by the excellent facilities."
