Buena Vista University Education Students Receive Recognition of Excellence
Storm Lake, Iowa (PRWEB) June 16, 2015 -- Five Buena Vista University (BVU) students from the School of Education received the Recognition of Excellence Award from Educational Testing Service (ETS) for their performance on the required Praxis II® exam in their content areas during the spring semester.
The students who received this award are:
• Laura Eberly, a senior elementary education and English major from Manning
• Tyler Kastantin, a senior elementary education major from Dallas Center
• Megan Schofield, a senior elementary education major from Manson who attended classes at the BVU Graduate & Professional Studies Fort Dodge site
• Richard Thacker, a senior history, secondary education major from Fort Dodge who attended classes at the BVU Graduate & Professional Studies Fort Dodge site
• Katherine Parcel, a senior elementary education major from Moville who attended classes at the BVU Graduate & Professional Studies Le Mars site
This award honors test takers who achieve exceptional individual performance on selected Praxis II content knowledge tests by meeting or exceeding the target score determined by the top 15 percent of candidates who took the test in previous years.
“These awards are a testament both to the work ethic of BVU students and to a teacher education program that guides those students into a demanding and highly-nuanced profession,” said Dr. Paul Theobald, dean of the school of education and professor of education at BVU. “As our graduates leave, they are not only prepared to perform well on exit exams, they are prepared to take their place as contributors to the educational life of Iowa communities, positively touching the lives of hundreds of individuals as they move through their careers.”
The Praxis Series® tests are taken by individuals entering the teaching profession as part of the certification process required by many states and professional licensing organizations. The Praxis II® Subject Assessments measure knowledge of specific subjects that K–12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge.
The eight Praxis II content tests are selected because they cover subject areas and pedagogy skills considered fundamental by states which use Praxis scores as a licensure requirement. Those tests include biology, chemistry, elementary education, English language, literature and composition, general science, mathematics, physics and social studies.
