Build Safe Chicago Introduces New Safety Procedure
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) March 14, 2016 -- The coalition of leading Chicago construction companies, Build Safe Chicago, have put competition aside; joined forces to develop and implement new safety procedure forms that all Build Safe Chicago members will utilize going forward. The new Job Hazard Analysis form will allow coalitions members to share data on job sites, identify potential hazards, implement procedures to overcome potential hazards and identify equipment to provide the safest possible job sites.
“Anytime you can get a group of competitors to come together and put aside their differences to work together to make industry better is just a great accomplishment”, stated Tom Villanova, President of Chicago & Cook County Building & Construction Trades Council. “The new Job Hazard Analysis form is just one of the many benefits of the Build Safe Chicago group, I look forward to seeing what else the group will come up with.”
“I welcome this joint effort of Build Safe Chicago to enhance safety in the construction industry throughout the Chicagoland area,” said Judy Frydland, Commissioner for the Chicago Department of Buildings. “By using data analytics and innovative safety measures, we can anticipate potential safety issues and proactively keep buildings and workers safe during construction.”
Build Safe Chicago members consist of Lendlease, Gilbane Building Company, Kenny Construction Company (now Granite), Mortenson Construction, Power Construction Company, Turner Construction Company, Clark Construction Group, McHugh Construction, Leopardo Companies and Tishman Construction Corporation. The group was formed in November 2010, and have shared best practices to improve safety on their construction projects. These initiatives include safe work planning including constructability reviews, safety prequalification of subcontractors, fall prevention, working training and skill development, personal protective equipment, etc., promoting safety as a prime differentiator of construction in Illinois.
Build Safe programs have successfully been launched in New York, Washington DC, California, New England and New Jersey.
