Building a Stronger Community Through Partnership
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 28, 2015 -- Strong communities are built on a foundation of trust and sustained through partnership and collaboration. Since 2007, as part of a public-private partnership focused on community safety and quality of life solutions, security company Andrews International (AI), an affiliate of U.S. Security Associates, has operated a Community Assisted Problem Solving (CAPS) program in some of L.A.’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods. Through the program, CAPS officers provide private policing and problem resolution that effectively bridges the gap between law enforcement and the community.
CAPS officers bridge this gap through community outreach and engagement with citizens, public agencies, social services groups, local businesses, and other stakeholders. One example of CAPS outreach is its support of organizations working to serve the homeless population. Communities continue to struggle with providing support to the homeless population, specifically in large metropolitan areas.
Recently, CAPS donated warm jackets to the Winter Homeless Shelter located at the First Presbyterian Church in Hollywood, CA, and more to the Center located at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament. Most of the hooded jackets were new, some gently worn, and were donated just as a rainy, cold snap hit the area.
Steve Seyler, executive security director of the Los Angeles area CAPS program, says generosity on the part of CAPS officers is the rule rather than the exception. CAPS officers are encouraged to take advantage of connections the CAPS team has fostered with a long list of local homeless outreach providers.
Bill Farrar, vice president of media, entertainment, and special armed services, is the senior security company executive responsible for CAPS operations company-wide. He works hand-in-hand with the homeless shelters and the people they serve on a daily basis. “CAPS officers are building bridges through hundreds of positive contacts every week, working to improve quality of life.” Farrar continues, pointing to the recent support for the homeless shelters, “We see opportunities in our communities every day because we live and work here. Our officers know that everyone benefits from a strong community. They do not do this work because they have to. They do it because they want to.”
