Burke Rehabilitation Center Honors New York Rangers Captain, Celebrated Philanthropist and Stroke Survivor at Centennial Burke Award Dinner
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 17, 2015 -- Burke Rehabilitation Center hosted its Centennial Burke Award Dinner the evening of June 16 at the Pierre Hotel in New York City. The Burke Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Boards of Directors of Burke Rehabilitation Hospital and the Burke Medical Research Institute.
The prestigious recognition is given to an individual or group who has made significant contributions to the field of rehabilitation. This year’s Burke Award was presented to: New York Rangers Captain Ryan McDonagh, Not Impossible Labs Founder Mick Ebeling, and Brad and Jessica Berman, a stroke survivor and his wife who run a community campaign to benefit Burke’s lower extremity robotics program.
“We’re proud to honor these individuals on our 100-year anniversary. They have all made significant contributions to benefit the patients who come to us for care and the rehabilitative community at-large,” said Mary Beth Walsh, MD, Burke Rehabilitation Hospital’s CEO and executive medical director.
This year’s Burke Award Dinner, which also commemorated the nonprofit organization’s centennial year, drew hundreds of leaders and supporters from the Burke community. Attendees came together to congratulate honorees and to celebrate Burke’s 100 years of cutting-edge research and advanced rehabilitative care.
Burke is hosting a variety of centennial-related events this year, including a lobby exhibit featuring “then and now” artifacts dating back to 1915 and illustrating the history and future of rehabilitation, such as a World War I naval uniform and a 3D-printed prosthetic arm. Burke encourages community members in Westchester County and the greater New York metro area to tour its 100-year-old campus, located at 785 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY.
Burke will host a free, family-friendly Community Birthday Extravaganza event the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 10. The event will feature fun activities for kids, arts and crafts, live music and refreshments.
