Burlington VT Runners Injury Specialist Attends Extremity Joint And Rehabilitation Conference
Burlington, VT (PRWEB) February 19, 2015 -- Dr Sean P Mahoney, a spine and extremity joint specialist with offices in the Burlington and Waitsfield, VT areas, recently trained with world renowned extremity injury specialist, Dr Mitchell Mally, DC. Dr Mahoney's recent advanced extremity training adds to his 28 years of experience in helping runners and all athletes get relief non-surgically from foot, ankle, knee, hip and shoulder problems.
"I have spent thousands of hours over the past 30 plus years, researching, studying and perfecting the most effective techniques to help runners and athletes of all ages get relief with joint pain and training injuries, " states Mahoney.
The seven primary extremity joints covered in this advanced symposium included: the shoulder, wrist/hand, hip/pelvis, knee, foot/ankle and the TMJ (jaw joint). The most common joints involved in runners' injuries are the foot/ankle, knee and hip/spine areas.
Some of the most common running related injuries and conditions that Dr Mahoney treats include: ankle and foot pain, plantar fasciitis and heel pain, shin splints, metatarsalgia, patellofemoral pain syndrome (runners knee), achilles tendonitis, hamstring issues and iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS).
All of these conditions can be painful, and if not properly treated, lead to chronic issues that limit or even end an athlete's ability to run.
Athletes of all ages that participate in contact sports, Crossfit or heavy lifting often suffer from various shoulder joint injuries in addition to lower extremity conditions. Painful and limiting shoulder injuries include: rotator cuff injuries, acromioclavicular joint (AC), shoulder impingements, tendonitis and bursitis.
"Each of these injuries, whether running or contact sports related, respond well to specific extremity joint adjustments. To maximize the correction and return to normal function, it is essential to also incorporate the correct type of rehabilitative exercise," states Dr Mahoney.
Runners with lower extremity and spine conditions will often benefit from custom orthotics once their joint and spine biomechanics have been corrected or improved.
"With over 28 years in practice treating athletes for running-related and contact sport joint injuries and conditions, I am very fortunate to be at the point in my career where I have over 10,000 patients worth of experience. This base of practical experience helps me to get injured athletes out of pain and back in action more quickly and with less cost and lost time," says Dr Mahoney.
Dr Mahoney is a native Vermonter with practices in the Burlington and Waitsfield, VT areas. He is an active runner and trains extensively with Kettlebells, weights and yoga.
