Businesses March to the Call of Patriotism; Cell Phones For Soldiers Recognizes Those who Provide a Lifeline for America’s Bravest
Boston, MA (PRWEB) August 28, 2014 -- Cell Phones For Soldiers was born when two children decided to help one soldier pay off his more than $8,000 cellphone bill.
Ten years later, Cell Phones For Soldiers is still thriving due to the thousands of volunteers, businesses and civic groups that support its mission to provide a lifeline for America’s bravest.
Fueled by donations of gently-used cellphones and monetary contributions, Cell Phones For Soldiers has contributed more than 210 million minutes of talk time to deployed troops and supported 2,500 veterans with emergency funds.
“Without the nationwide support of businesses and organizations, we could not assist the number of troops and veterans that we do,” said Robbie Bergquist, co-founder of Cell Phones For Soldiers. “It is humbling to have so many long-time supporters and new patriots join our fight to provide a lifeline for America’s bravest.”
Thanks to more than 3,400 public cellphone drop-off locations nationwide, the devoted businesses below and many more, Cell Phones For Soldiers is able to connect deployed troops with loved ones and assist transitioning veterans with emergency funds.
• Supporting Cell Phones For Soldiers since 2009, Raising Canes, a franchise located in Lincoln, Nebraska, has raised more than $4,900 and collected phones in three restaurants. Its efforts have provided more than 556,000 minutes of talk time for troops.
• Since 2006, Re/MAX Classic of Farmington Hills, Michigan, has displayed its patriotism by working with the Vietnam Veterans of America post 528, Retired United Auto Workers and their local American Legion to collect more than 17,000 cell phones.
• In honor of Memorial Day, MarBlue, a Florida-based technology accessories company, donated iPad covers, screen protectors and a portion of its web sales of more than $400. The iPad covers accompanied a recent donation from Cell Phones For Soldiers and AT&T to the spinal cord injury unit at the Memphis Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
• In celebration of its 40th anniversary, InTouch Credit Union, headquartered in Plano, Texas, encouraged customers to donate phones and funds to help troops call home. Matching customer donations, InTouch’s efforts resulted in a $4,000 donation. In addition, the credit union will launch a holiday campaign this fall with a matching donation up to $2,500.
