California Economic Summit to Feature Top Gubernatorial Candidates, and Higher Education and State Leaders

The Summit, now in its sixth year, will feature the leading California 2018 gubernatorial candidates and the state’s three higher education leaders, among others to discuss developing a policy agenda to meet the issues of income inequality, economic security and upward mobility.
Currently, 18 million Californians live in or near poverty and it’s not difficult to understand why – with an affordable housing crisis touching all parts of the state; a rising gap in the number of workers available to meet the demands of the jobs of tomorrow; and, crumbling infrastructure – these issues have a far and wide reach and are causing Californian’s to struggle to make ends meet.

Scheduled to participate in November’s Summit are: Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom; Treasurer John Chiang; former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; University of California President Janet Napolitano; California State University Chancellor Timothy White; California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley; San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer; and State Senator Toni Atkins, among many others. In anticipation of this year’s convening, the California Economic Summit along with founding partner, California Forward (CA Fwd), launched Elevate California – a platform focused on identifying actionable approaches to increasing income equality, economic security and upward mobility. Elevate CA along with the Summit’s action plan, the 2017 Roadmap to Shared Prosperity, are critical to shaping and focusing this year’s annual convening.
