California Proposes New Laws To Curb Prescription Drug Abuse
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) September 23, 2013 -- As reported by The L.A. Times (9/15) in their news story titled, Bills would give state new powers to fight prescription drug abuse, that there are two proposed pieces of legislation that will help California curb the rising tide of prescription drug abuse.
California Governor Jerry Brown's first bill will require coroners to report prescription drug overdose deaths to the medical board. The board would use that information to determine which doctors were prescribing drugs that caused patient deaths.
At Harbor Village, clients with drug abuse problems start their recovery at a beautiful South Florida facility. A 24/7 medically supervised detox center, Harbor Village allows each client to receive private drug treatment in a luxury, state-of-the art environment. Clients are welcomed with upscale accommodations including an attractively furnished suite complete with satellite television, over an acre of scenic outdoor lounge area, spa, salon, massage and acupuncture services, nutritious, gourmet dining and the personalized support of a caring, attentive staff.
According to Bills would give state new powers to fight prescription drug abuse, said the goal of the bill was to give the medical board a tool to detect "patterns of death" as they emerge.
"In too many of these cases, the deadly drugs came straight from a bottle with the dead person's own name on it, with a legal prescription by a provider," Lieu said.
A second bill proposed would introduce a more powerful prescription drug monitoring program. Featuring a database called CURES, information would be kept as to prescriptions dispensed by pharmacies, including the doctors prescribing them and the patients making the purchases.
“Prescription drug abuse is a serious condition. A detox center such as Harbor Village knows how to address this dependency and help achieve sobriety for its clients,” said Robert Niznik, Harbor Village CEO.
