Calpine Goes Live with Mobile Solution for Maximo
Folsom, CA (PRWEB) May 23, 2014 -- To keep maintenance and operations running efficiently, Calpine, a major U.S. power generation company, has adopted a mobile strategy committed to look for opportunities to increase field worker productivity. Knowing that mobility for field work typically results in significant productivity gains, Calpine started to research for mobile solutions that would integrate with their IBM Maximo system.
Calpine knew that they needed to provide their users with a comfortable device along with a simple, intuitive user interface to support their existing work management processes. They also knew that their users would demand fast performance, and their IT staff would want a mobile architecture that would not create additional complexity to the Maximo infrastructure. Most importantly, they wanted to deliver a top-notch user experience.
Calpine Turns to Interloc Solutions
After an exhaustive search for the right product on the right devices, Calpine turned to Interloc Solutions and the next generation Interloc Mobile Informer product.
Calpine desired a work management application that ran on Android tablets. Their requirements were driven by simple use cases to conduct the following work management tasks in the field:
• Create work request
• View and update assigned work orders
• Enter labor hours on work orders
• Add work log entries to work orders
• Add failure reporting to work orders
• Issue parts to work order
• Capture photos as attached documents
Delivery and deployment occurred in April 2014 for approximately 40 maintenance workers, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive on the functionality provided by the application, particularly the intuitive and responsive user interface contributing to the overall usability of the product.
“We were very pleased with the initial Mobile Informer Work Order application, so we are continuing to expand our Mobile Informer footprint to other Maximo applications!” Tu Tran, Director of Information Services, Calpine.
As of the writing of this press release, Interloc is developing two additional mobile Maximo applications for Calpine – one for Inventory Management and one to bring a custom application for Outage Services Group to manage turbine major maintenance to the mobile device.
