Camp Boggy Creek Launches 'Happy Campers Campaign' in Honor of Paul Newman
Eustis, Florida (PRWEB) January 26, 2015 -- On January 26th, Camp Boggy Creek’s co-founder, Paul Newman, would have celebrated his 90th birthday. A remarkable human being with an extraordinary vision, Paul dreamed of a special place where children with serious illnesses could simply be kids. Newman wanted it to be a place where these kids could reach beyond illness, and in his own words, “kick back, relax and raise a little hell.”
Modeled on Paul Newman’s original Hole In The Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut, Camp Boggy Creek was incorporated as a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit in 1990. From the earliest stages of its development, Paul was an integral part of the formation of Camp Boggy Creek. The dream became a reality in 1996, as Paul Newman and a group of dedicated co-founders, business and community leaders from throughout Florida celebrated the arrival of the first campers.
In honor of what would have been Paul Newman’s 90th birthday, Camp Boggy Creek is launching the Happy Campers Campaign. As part of the celebration, all donations to Camp Boggy Creek will be matched - up to $90,000 by a generous grant from the SeriousFun Children’s Network.
As a member camp in SeriousFun Children’s Network, Camp Boggy Creek will join its 29 sister camps worldwide in encouraging everyone to get involved with a variety of activities taking place throughout the year as we celebrate Paul’s legacy.
“Paul Newman ignited a movement of philanthropy that has positively impacted millions of people around the world,” said June Clark, President and CEO of Camp Boggy Creek. It was Paul’s dream for camps to thrive and provide laughter, joy and hope to children who are struggling with serious or life-threatening illnesses, and our Board, staff and loyal friends are committed to keeping that dream alive.”
Camp Boggy Creek offers camping programs at no cost to children or their families, which are made possible entirely through the support of generous and caring individuals, corporations, foundations, healthcare partners and volunteers. All facilities and programming are skillfully adapted to meet the medical conditions of campers, ensuring that they can participate in activities such as, soaring down a zipline, catching a fish for the first time, horseback riding and making s’mores at a campfire with friends.
