Campus Foundation Grooves Through Decades For Good Causes
Everett, PA (PRWEB) March 16, 2015 -- The Bedford County Regional Education Foundation for the Bedford County Campus of Allegany College of Maryland will boogie to the beat of the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s at a dinner-dance that raises funds to benefit today’s college students.
The Saturday, April 11, event, which starts at 6 p.m. at the Bedford Elks Country Club, features hits performed by Zupe, a multi-talented singer, musician and composer who entertains as a “one-man band” that even features harmony back-up vocals.
Titled “Groovin’ Through the Decades: Music from the 60s, 70s and 80s,” the evening includes a silent auction of goods and services and a buffet meal prepared by Terry Wallace, executive chef and manager of the country club’s Arandale Lounge and Ballroom.
The benefit will help the Foundation provide scholarships for deserving ACM students in credit programs at the Everett campus.
It also will provide up to half of the projected $20,000 cost of simulated training equipment needed by the Bedford County Campus’ associate-degree nursing program.
These latest-technology devices present lifelike medical scenarios and allow students to perform emergency procedures and administer medication to learn skills they will one day use with actual patients.
“The use of high-fidelity adult, pediatric and newborn manikins with pre-programed scenarios, central command station, cardiac monitors and medical equipment allows nursing students to experience ‘real life’ clinical situations in a controlled laboratory environment,” said Sherry Obert, associate professor of nursing.
“In the clinical laboratory students are able to practice skills, problem solve and communicate with team members,” she added, noting that clinical experiences with pediatric and neonatal students are limited in rural areas. “The students learn from both their successes and mistakes in a safe setting.”
With as many as 20 graduates entering registered nursing every other year, the college-operated program at the Bedford County Technical Center makes a significant contribution to health care delivery in Bedford County and the surrounding area.
The BCREF has had an enormous impact since it, and the local college, started in 1990, awarding more than $1 million to Bedford County Campus students.
In the current 2014-15 academic year alone, the Foundation has provided nearly $60,000 to more than 319 deserving students through scholarships, tuition assistance and emergency book purchases.
“The Bedford County Regional Education Foundation is committed to helping local residents participate in post-secondary education at the Bedford County Campus,” said Dan Koontz, its chair.
“In addition to helping local students through financial ways the Foundation also provides funding support for facility development and technology upgrades.”
Koontz added: “We hope our community will share in our commitment to our local students and college by generously supporting our fund raiser.
“The past 25 years have been very exciting as we have watched our campus grow and mature. Our relationship with Allegany College of Maryland has proven to be the very best for our local residents.”
Three Bedford County businesses and organizations are providing key support for the Foundation fund-raiser. Their levels of sponsorship borrow from the event’s musical theme: Structural Fiberglass Inc. and the Bedford Moose Lodge 480 are diamond-album sponsors, while Everett Cash Mutual Insurance Group is a multi-platinum album sponsor.
The country club doors open at 5 p.m. for “Groovin’ Through the Decades: Music from the 60s, 70s and 80s.” Dinner is served at 6 p.m.
