Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic Celebrates 10th Anniversary
(PRWEB UK) 25 November 2013 -- Having practised at The Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury for 8 years prior to opening this clinic, the doctors knew that the independence this would give them to widen their range of treatments and to provide added flexibility for their patients in accessing the services, would only be a good thing. This has certainly proved to be the case.
A lot has changed during this time for non-surgical cosmetic treatments. The Clinic is still the only Dermatologist led clinic in Kent, providing a comprehensive range of laser treatments for the skin as well as anti ageing treatments.
The most popular treatments, including: laser hair removal, Botulinum toxin injections and Dermal Filler injections, were available 10 years ago, but so much has changed since.
The first laser for hair removal was the Ruby laser, effective but very slow. Then came the various IPL machines of which they did try the most powerful one, but it was soon realised that it was not as effective as the laser, so this was soon replaced. Then Cynosure introduced the Alexandrite laser to use, which is the gold standard for effective hair removal. The Alexandrite is truly excellent in treating dark coarse hairs but there is still no effective method of dealing with blonde and fair hair so far, other than electrolysis, which is also provided.
The first Dermal Fillers on the market were the Zyderm range of bovine collagen injections, which required two skin tests before treatment. The requirement for a two month wait was removed with the introduction of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers, the first being Restylane. This dominated the market for around 8 years and now there are many brands of HA fillers available. The clinic only gets its supply from approved distributors and never from the internet. Juvederm, Emerval, Belotero, Radiesse, as well as Restylane are in stock at all times. Even within each brand the range of fillers has expanded to cover fine lines to deep folds to volume loss and, with the addition of lidocaine local anaesthetic to the gel, it has made filler injections more comfortable for patients.
Botox was the first toxin to be used for wrinkles such as frown lines, crows feet and forehead lines. Again more brands have appeared and these include Dysport, Vistabel, Xeomin, Boccouture, and Azzalure etc. However, there is no consistent evidence to prove that one brand is superior to another. It is usually the expertise and experience of the doctor carrying out the treatment that makes the difference and the doctors at the Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic are the most experienced in this part of Kent.
One of the biggest advances for improving and widening the treatment options has been in the field of lasers. At the Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic, they have 2 lasers for tattoo removal, one for the treatment of fungal nail infections, a laser for thread veins and spider veins on the face, another laser for acne, a further one for acne scarring and stretch marks, another system for age spots and pigmentation, as well as a system to treat rosacea and flushing. These are in addition to the hair removal laser.
Another key area of treatment development has been in the fields of skin cancer and pre-cancer, with the use of Photodynamic Therapy (or PDT). This has been steadily expanded over the last 10 years in the clinic and is a great alternative to other modalities of treatment for these important conditions.
No doubt, further advances will introduce new equipment in due course, which will allow them to further improve their ability to offer the best and most advanced evidence-based treatments to our clients.
The Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic is also expanding to offer other medical procedures, which are still in the process of gaining popularity within the UK. This is exemplified by Ultroid treatment for haemorrhoids, which has been widely carried out in the USA for a number of years, though it has yet to be accepted by the NHS as the treatment of choice for this ailment. Standard therapy in this field would typically revolve around a hospital procedure often utilising general anaesthetic, whilst the Ultroid method is notable as a swift and relatively painless procedure carried out within an outpatient environment. Introduced to the UK by one of the business partners at the Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic, the hope is that this unique solution will soon be unveiled on a countrywide basis and adds to the Canterbury Skin and Laser clinic’s relevancy into the future.
Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic is one of the select few establishments within the UK where all procedures are under the direct supervision of specialist Dermatology professionals. All practitioners are qualified to an exemplary level, and benefit from years of relevant experience in their respective fields. As a fully registered organisation that is also regulated by the Care Quality Commission, the business has always remained wholly consistent with its top priority of unmatched client care, and so only ever procures supplies from approved distributors.
With the 10th anniversary of the Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic, this successful business is constantly seeking to refine its services to ever more accomplished standards.
