CAPSS Honors Senator Andrea Stillman with 2014 Legislator Award
West Hartford, CT (PRWEB) February 07, 2014 -- The Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS), a statewide nonprofit educational administration organization which represents public school superintendents, assistant superintendents and other educational leaders across the state, today recognized Senator Andrea Stillman (D-Waterford) for her leadership and commitment to improving public education for all students in Connecticut.
“Senator Stillman has been a champion for education reform in Connecticut and continues to provide steadfast leadership on a wide range of critical issues,” Joseph Cirasuolo, Executive Director of the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS), said. “Our members appreciate Senator Stillman’s commitment to the continuous improvement of our public education system and we are delighted to recognize her.”
As Chair of the Education Committee, Senator Stillman’s leadership has been instrumental in the adoption of legislation that furthers personalized learning in CT by giving permission to school districts to award high school diplomas based on mastery of content and skills instead of seat time. Further, Senator Stillman played a vital role in passing legislation that maintains the momentum towards the adoption of a principal and teacher evaluation and support system that holds principals and teachers accountable for growth in student achievement. A leader who understands the importance of funding public education, Senator Stillman vocally supported the adoption of a state budget that not only supports the educational reform agenda that was adopted in 2012 but also increased state financial support for public education.

"I've worked hard to ensure that Connecticut embraces and empowers both educators and students, and to be recognized for this advocacy is a great honor. I look forward to another legislative session where we can come together and improve public education for all of our children."
CAPSS looks forward to continuing it collaborations with Senator Stillman and the Education Committee during the upcoming Legislative Session and building upon the Education Reform efforts that began in 2012.
The CAPSS Legislator Award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the improvement of public education for all Connecticut students. Past recipients include Sen. Thomas Gaffey and Rep. Andrew Fleischmann.
