CAPSS Honors U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney with Legislator Award
West Hartford, Conn. (PRWEB) July 18, 2016 -- The Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS), a statewide nonprofit educational administration organization which represents public school superintendents, central office administrators and other educational leaders across the state, has recognized United States Congressman Joseph Courtney (CT-02) for his contribution to the well-being of public education and the children whom the public schools serve.
“U.S. Representative Courtney has been incredibly supportive of CAPSS’ mission to ensure that every child in Connecticut has access to a great public education,” said Joseph Cirasuolo, Executive Director, CAPSS. “On behalf of our members, CAPSS thanks U.S. Representative Courtney for his continuous efforts in making sure schools in Connecticut are all they can be for our children.”
U.S. Rep. Courtney was recognized for being open to the perspectives of school system leaders whenever there has been an educational issue before the U.S. House of Representatives. Of note, U.S. Rep. Courtney was the leader in the House of the effort to initially postpone the implementation of the “Cadillac Tax” provision of the Affordable Care Act, a leader of the effort in the House to repeal the “Cadillac Tax” provision and the leader of the effort in the House to postpone for one more year the implementation of the “Cadillac Tax” provision.
As a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, U.S. Rep. Courtney serves on the Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions subcommittee, as well as the Higher Education and Workforce Training subcommittee.
“I am honored to be named as the ‘Legislator of the Year’ by the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents,” said Rep. Courtney. “It has been a pleasure working with the school superintendents over the years while I have served on the House Education and Workforce Committee in Congress. I remain committed to ensuring that our public schools have all of the resources and support they need to provide young people with a quality education. I want to especially thank the Association for joining me in the effort to repeal the so-called ‘Cadillac Tax’ which would have harmed many middle-class workers, including many educators across the country. While we have made significant progress to date by delaying the implementation of the tax for another two years, we will continue to work together until we get the Cadillac Tax repealed once and for all."
CAPSS looks forward to continued collaboration with Rep. Courtney in developing legislation that provides opportunities to prepare all Connecticut students for college, career and civic life.
The CAPSS Legislator Award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the improvement of public education for all Connecticut students. Past recipients include Senator Andrea Stillman, Rep. Andrew Fleischmann and Senator Gayle Slossberg.
