CarbonCast Precast Walls for Military Applications Showcased in New Technical Brief
Bethlehem, Pa. (PRWEB) December 17, 2013 -- AltusGroup, a nationwide network of 14 precast concrete manufacturers, has issued a new technical brief outlining the use of CarbonCast Enclosure Systems for military applications. Available as a PDF on the AltusGroup website (http://altusprecast.com/products/carboncast-technical-briefs/), the five-page brief explains how exterior walls made with CarbonCast precast technology can meet stringent military demands ranging from energy efficiency to terrorism and blast protection.
From an exterior wall system standpoint, military projects present architects with a challenge to optimize three independent variables: cost, performance and aesthetics. In many cases, CarbonCast can be an ideal solution. CarbonCast’s versatility, continuous insulation, strength and overall cost-effectiveness can provide a military building with a proper balance of performance characteristics.
The technical brief spotlights three military case histories: The $14 million, 52,000-square-foot Security Forces headquarters on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Fairborn, Ohio, the $4 million, 109,000-square-foot Armed Forces Reserve Center in San Marcos, Texas, and the $5.6 million, 141,000-square-foot Fort Carson Division Headquarters in Fort Carson, Colo. All used CarbonCast High Performance Wall Panels to achieve required performance and aesthetic concerns.
CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels, CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding and CarbonCast Architectural Cladding use C-GRID® carbon fiber grid as a shear truss and, when appropriate, secondary reinforcing in the panel face. The use of C-GRID creates panels that can be thinner, lighter, more durable and less costly overall than conventional precast and other building systems.
Additional benefits include continuous insulation to meet ASHRAE requirements, improved fire and safety performance, reduced moisture penetration and speedy installation. Panels may also accommodate a variety of finishes and articulations, including sandblasting, reveals, bullnoses, cornices, thin brick, medallion insets and more.
