Caregiverlist® Announces Caregiver Hiring Escalates as Senior Population Grows at Double the Rate of Younger Population
Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) February 05, 2016 -- Senior home care companies have increased caregiver hiring by 30% since 2010, the Caregiverlist® annual 2015 Caregiver Employment Survey reveals. As a provider of resources for senior caregivers, Caregiverlist® maintains an ongoing list of professional senior caregivers who are hired by senior care companies based on their available job openings and surveyed on each job application and each year. The compilation of the annual survey results from 2015 indicate more caregiving job positions have been created in assisted living communities along with senior home care agencies, driving the need for more professional caregivers.
Senior care companies are now expanding their recruitment efforts for caregiving staff to include early retirees in order to meet caregiver staffing needs. Seniors in America are living longer lives than ever before and the need for more senior caregiver employees continues to rise in order to meet the demand for senior caregiving services. While America's seniors are living longer than previous generations, the younger population is not increasing at the same rate, as documented by the U.S. Census Bureau's most recent data.
"Caregiver employees are already in high demand and the U.S. Census Bureau data really showcases one reason why there are many more seniors needing care than trained caregivers in some parts of the country," says Julie Northcutt, CEO of Caregiverlist, Inc. Senior care companies are constantly hiring both part-time and full-time caregivers as employees to provide care for seniors in their homes and at assisted living communities.
The number of seniors who are living longer than age 65 has increased by 15.1% in just the last decade, from between the year 2000 to year 2010. This growth is more than double the growth of the total population growth during the same time period. As the number of seniors has more than doubled, while the general population has not, the senior care industry needs more caregivers.
Seniors usually will require caregiving services for at least 2 years of their older years. The senior home care industry has grown along with the rise in the senior population, with a 40% increase in the number of licensed senior home care agencies providing caregiving services to allow seniors to age-in-place in their own homes.
The population growth of seniors has consistently risen each decade since the U.S. Census Bureau began tracking. Back in 1900 there were just 3.1 million Americans age 65 or older. Today there are 40.3 million Americans age 65 or older.
Caregiverlist® surveys all job applicants submitting their application on the Caregiverlist® and also surveys senior care companies. The number of senior care companies have increased by 40% since 2008, as more seniors are choosing to age-in-place in their own home while requiring caregiving services for some of those years.
Anyone with a caring personality can consider becoming a senior caregiver. Online training courses meet basic caregiver training requirements in many states. As the senior care industry has grown, so have regulations to require minimum caregiver training standards and licensing of senior care companies. California recently passed legislation called the Home Care Consumer Protection Act to require a minimum of 10 hours of caregiver training for new senior caregivers.
Early retirees can begin as part-time companion caregivers and assist seniors with memory loss or who may need assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's) which include assisting with meals, dressing and personal care. High school graduates can begin a career in caregiving and become a Certified Caregiver with an online caregiver training course, then take a course to become a Certified Nursing Aide (C.N.A.), which is the first step in becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.) and then a Registered Nurse (R.N.).
