CareSource Foundation Funds 28 Grants in Ohio Totaling $215,000
Dayton, Ohio (PRWEB) October 10, 2013 -- The CareSource Foundation recently awarded its third round of quarterly grants for 2013. The Foundation provides grants to organizations in health and human services domains with a focus on children’s health, issues of senior adults, community health issues, special needs populations and strategies to address the medically uninsured throughout the state of Ohio.
The CareSource Foundation was created to fund non-profit organizations that share the Foundation’s mission of advancing the health and well-being of underserved people in the communities they serve by providing innovative solutions and funding to address health care needs. Organizations awarded grants have been chosen because of their work to promote the well-being of people they interact with as well as their dedication to creating change.
CareSource Foundation Grant Highlights :
• Clothes that Work is a key part of a community-wide model for social service collaboration in the Dayton region. They received a $10,000 grant to support job training and employment services for low-income, displaced individuals who were referred by one of 50+ social service agencies in the network. Clothes that Work helps to eliminate barriers to employment, including interview and job-ready attire, so individuals once thought to be unemployable become economically stable and professionally successful.
• Joseph’s Home is the only transitional housing provider in NE Ohio to offer supervised, extended medical treatment for homeless men with acute illness. They are part of a collaborative effort in Cleveland linking hospitals, community agencies, emergency shelters and health care facilities in a 7-county area. The CareSource Foundation grant of $7,500 will help with a HUD funding match to extend critical health services for homeless men.
Additional CareSource Foundation grant recipients include:
1. Abigail’s Journey (Dayton): $2,500 grant to help low-income women to overcome barriers by providing employment assistance, medical services, case management and financial planning.
2. Catholic Charities (Cleveland): $7,000 grant to support the “Help Me Grow” parent education program.
3. The Center for Health Families (Columbus): $7,500 grant to provide a coordinated community response for pregnant and parenting teens.
4. Community Health Center (Akron): $5,000 grant to provide comprehensive prevention education, treatment and housing services for those with addictive/compulsive disorders
5. Community Mercy Foundation (Springfield): $7,500 grant to support the Med Assist prescription assistance program for low-income, uninsured residents.
6. EPIC House (Cincinnati): $5,000 grant to provide housing facilities and personal services to low-income, functionally impaired elderly individuals.
7. Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center (Toledo): $8,000 grant to provide crisis support for victims of domestic violence through the Court Advocacy program.
8. Hearing, Speech & Deaf Center (Cincinnati): $8,000 grant to help fund the Charitable Service Program which offers high quality assistive/adaptive technology for individuals with hearing impairment or loss.
9. Hope Academy for Autism (Warren): $7,000 grant to provide development resources for parents of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
10. Kids In New Directions (Dayton): $5,000 grant to provide health and personal safety for children in targeted areas with a high ratio of reported sex offenders and domestic violence.
11. Little Brothers/Friends of the Elderly (Cincinnati): $7,000 grant to fund the Visiting Volunteers program which helps reduce social isolation for the frail and elderly.
12. Mason Parks and Recreation Foundation (Mason): $5,000 grant to help support the “Common Ground” inclusive playground for children with disabilities.
13. Near Northside Material Assistance Program (Columbus): $10,000 grant to develop a partnership with CODA (Central Ohio Diabetes Association) to extend access to fresh foods and increase understanding of diabetes prevention through nutrition.
14. Near Westside Multi-Services (Cleveland): $10,000 grant to provide health screenings, wellness workshops and chronic illness management for low-income families.
15. Neighborhood Healthcare (Cleveland): $10,000 grant to provide health and interpretation services for over 14,000 non-English speaking refugee families in the region.
16. Otterbein Homes (Lebanon): $10,000 grant to augment the Benevolent Care & Quality of Life Fund for residents of Otterbein skilled nursing centers.
17. Pregnancy Care of Summit County (Akron): $5,000 grant to support education, health services and case management services for young, low-income mothers.
18. Project CHATTER (Dayton): $5,000 grant to provide speech therapy for low-income/uninsured children.
19. Project Woman (Springfield): $8,000 grant to provide emergency shelter services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
20. Ronald McDonald House Charities (Dayton): $7,500 grant to provide guest services/support for families with hospitalized children at Dayton-area hospitals.
21. St. Mary Development Corporation (Dayton): $15,000 grant to help create sustainable housing solutions and provide services for more than 600 low-income seniors living in seven low-income apartment centers.
22. St. Paul’s Community Center (Toledo): $10,000 grant to help implement a Nurse Practitioner Program to promote health stability and prevent abuse of indigent/homeless in Lucas Co.
23. St. Vincent de Paul (Dayton): $15,000 to expand case management and violence intervention services for children living in emergency shelter.
24. Teen Start (Columbus): $6,000 grant to support parent training for 300 young African-American mothers living in high-risk areas of Franklin, Delaware & Cuyahoga counties.
25. The Metanoia Project (Cleveland): $5,000 grant focused on moving shelter-resistant homeless women into safe, supported environments.
26. YWCA (Cincinnati): $6,500 grant to help support mobile mammography in underserved neighborhoods and launch the YWCA Breast Health Program for teen girls
