Carnegie Mellon University Alumni Launch Opineer.com, a New Website for Entrepreneurs and Startups

It provides a space for members of the business community to interact and generate public relations opportunities. It also gives a break-out of trending, recent and popular topics.
Through Opineer’s unique interface, entrepreneurs can share their experiences and even pose questions regarding start-ups by creating poll-based posts. In turn, poll results will be displayed on a graph in real time to help gauge public response. In addition, users are able to share their opinions and engage in in-depth conversations with other entrepreneurs through an intuitive commenting system.
Three Carnegie Mellon University alumni developed the idea for Opineer in 2012. At that time approximately 514,000 new businesses were created every month in the U.S. alone, totaling more than 6 million new businesses. But the creators of Opineer say many of the discussion communities that sprang up at that time are outdated because they are driven by one-way communication.
CEO Sean Kim says he is confident that Opineer’s platform will encourage users to engage actively because of its two-way system and real-time results. “By participating in our community, business owners will be able to expand both their business and social networks at the same time,” Kim says.
Opineer’s creators say the website will deliver timely information for start-ups. They also say the site will be especially valuable for entrepreneurs who need immediate answers to questions about specific niches in the business community. As Kim explains “It is extremely hard for entrepreneurs to pick up the right information in current discussion communities because the information pool is so large, but our poll-based discussion forum allows our users to direct their own questions and receive quick, continuous responses from other entrepreneurs.” Users are also able to sign in with their Facebook, Twitter or Google+ accounts for easier sharing across social media platforms.
