CASA For Kids of Columbia County is now Accepting Donations Online
St. Helens, OR (PRWEB) March 23, 2014 -- The hour long event will take place April 29th from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and is designed to create awareness about the CASA for Kids program. A short presentation about the program will be presented by Lindsey King the program’s director during the breakfast. Attendees will be asked for tax deductable financial donations at the end of the breakfast, or to donate their time to the cause.
CASA is the acronym for Court Appointed Special Advocate. This means children placed into foster care are appointed a special advocate who follows up on the child and then reports directly back to the judge handling the child’s case. The goal is to make sure children placed into foster care get the counseling and care they need and then get placed into a permanent home as soon as possible. Unfortunately, there are not enough CASA volunteers to handle the heavy case load.
Lindsey King, director of CASA for Kids of Columbia County knows the foster care system well as she was placed into 27 different foster homes before she turned eleven. Finally she was given a CASA advocate and was permanently adopted shortly after that. She will tell her story during the free breakfast. She is an amazing success story of the
CASA program.
While CASA for Kids does receive roughly 20 percent of its operating capital from the State of Oregon, it relies largely on private donations. The program needs money to recruit, screen and train new CASA advocates. Since 2003 the number of abused and neglected children entering the foster care system in Columbia County has increased by 63 percent. Unfortunately, there are not enough CASA volunteers to handle the case load. “We urge everyone in Columbia County who cares about children to attend this important event. We are going to serve a fantastic breakfast at St. Helen’s newest event center, Meriweather Place.
