Casey Gollan Shows How to Set Up a Twitter Account for Business in 8 Easy Steps
(PRWEB) July 17, 2013 -- Obviously the first action business have to take is to set up a Twitter account in the first place says Gollan in his self-explanatory post How to Set Up a Twitter Account for Business in 8 Easy Steps.
He coaches: “When entering personal information you should think about entering your business rather than setting up a personal account. This isn’t difficult as the site itself offers an online tutorial, explaining the difference between the two and guiding users through the initial set up process so that there’s no room for confusion.”
When it comes to building a timeline Gollan advises companies to ‘follow’ those individuals or businesses they find interesting and useful to their own business. Often this involves following well-known Twitter users, he says. But it’s important too that businesses check for relevant individuals and companies within their own sector or organisations and individuals who can at least bring value to their own business.
As far as existing contacts are concerned, businesses should go to Search contacts and allow Twitter to access their accounts in order to save time. This may initially appear daunting but it allows that company to build a list of valuable Twitter and business contacts, says Gollan, Australia’s leading business coach.
The next step for companies intent on harnessing the value of Twitter feeds is to upload a photo (usually the company logo) and to enter a brief biography, says the business coach.
Think about that photograph though, says Gollan, as he goes on to explain: “You’ll be asked to upload a picture of your company, and enter a maximum 160 character bio. Particularly if you have a small to mid-sized business, you may want to consider using a head shot to give your business a more personal, approachable feel.”
The maximum allowable size for an image on Twitter is 700K. If businesses find they get an error message or the image simply doesn’t upload, it may be because it’s too large. This is easy to fix; they should simply compress the image using a free online program and then attempt to upload it again.
In order for a company to grow their Twitter presence it’s worth considering the following steps too, Gollan adds:
• Finding more people to follow. There are a number of ways to find more people to follow. One of the best methods is to find ‘authority’ people relevant to the business and find out who they follow.
• Searching for people or companies the business considers allays. Do this via the search box at the top of the Twitter page.
• Clicking on the ‘Discover’ tab at the top of the screen, and browsing around. A list of suggestions for people to follow and tweets that may be of interest will be highlighted by the networking site itself
From the Discover page businesses can also find new people to follow by viewing categories that may be of interest to them and their sector. This could include subjects such as technology, entertainment, Twitter, business, government, and many others.
When it comes to launching their first tweet businesses shouldn’t be nervous, says business marketing expert Gollan. This is because they will find that most of the information they want to tweet is perfectly acceptable on the site. They could let people know they are new to Twitter for example, ask for recommendations of who to follow, or share something interesting about the business such as case studies, important anniversaries or new contracts just won.
As businesses get more comfortable with Twitter and increase the frequency of their tweets, it’s good for them to remember that those self same tweets should always be helpful, respectful of what others are tweeting, and with self-promotion kept to a minimum.
