Catherine Zeiner Joins UST Board of Trustees
Santa Barbara, Calif. (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- In August, Catherine Zeiner, Executive Director of Safe Futures—formerly the Women’s Center of SE CT—which has operated throughout southeastern Connecticut since 1976, will join the Unemployment Services Trust (UST) Board of Trustees for her first term.
“We are always on the lookout for leaders that will bring value to the Trust leadership, and Cathy’s role as a board member with the Connecticut Association of Nonprofits—a long-time strategic partner and Sponsor of the Trust—helped bring her to our attention,” explained Donna Groh, Executive Director of UST.
“Cathy brings a valuable perspective to the Board of Trustees in that she works in a small to medium sized nonprofit and has extensive experience with a state association that, similarly to UST, works with a wide variety of agencies.”
UST Trustees are elected to the Board by participating member organizations and serve staggered three-year terms. Each Trustee has experience directing established nonprofit organizations.
“While the Trustees are not a ‘representative’ board in that there are not specific seats assigned to certain sectors or geographic locations, we want the Trustees to be representative of the membership overall, so we strive to have Trustees from across the country to help ensure we have perspectives that are in touch with various regional issues,” stated Groh. “I feel that Cathy fits well with this because she understands the wide variety of nonprofits operating from a service sector perspective, as well as a resource and needs perspective.”
With a strong background as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and community activist, Zeiner will be adding her experience and knowledge of financial and auditing best practices to the current Board.
“For the past 12 years I have served on the Board of the Connecticut Association of Nonprofits and through that was always aware of what a great partner UST is,” Zeiner said. “Serving on that board, I had the chance to learn through former board member Donna Gilbert [who retired from her board seat in early 2013] about the great leadership there is at the Trust—from an ethical and critical thinking perspective—so when the opportunity to participate arose, I saw it as a really exciting prospect.”
“I see UST as a collaborative, not just in terms of saving money, but in providing resources, such as expert claims monitoring, to organizations that might not otherwise have had that expertise in-house,” she continued. “It’s an honor to have been selected for this responsibility and I look forward to serving UST’s member agencies in such a collaborative fashion.”
