Cecil College Names Dr. Mary Way Bolt as its Fifth President
NORTH EAST, Maryland (PRWEB) July 30, 2015 -- The Cecil College Board of Trustees today announced its selection of Dr. Mary Way Bolt as President of the College in a special meeting, effective July 31. Previously serving as Interim President and in various other titles and capacities at the College for nearly 25 years, Bolt brings extensive higher education experience and a deep commitment to the College’s dedication as a learning provider for the surrounding region.
“As Chair of the Board of Trustees, I am confident the board has chosen the most qualified candidate to serve as our new president,” said Sarah Colenda, Cecil College Board of Trustees Chair and Search Committee Chairperson. “Dr. Mary Way Bolt has a complete understanding of the importance and impact our college has in our community. She is strongly committed to excellence, the success of our students, and Cecil College’s future growth.”
Prior to serving as Interim President, Bolt served as Vice President of Academic Programs for 10 years. As Chief Academic Officer, she expanded the College’s degree programs and course offerings with 89 new programs approved between 2005 and 2015. Bolt also added several continuing education programs in workforce development and STEM, and introduced destination summer camps. She developed numerous partnerships with businesses and universities to support the economic development needs of the region and advance student success.
“I am honored to serve as Cecil College’s fifth president and proud to lead an institution that is highly regarded throughout this region,” said Bolt. “We are recognized for our commitment to students, academic excellence, and our dedicated faculty and staff. As we move forward, Cecil College will extend our reach to make certain we play an integral role in economic development, service to the community, and the support of each student.”
A lifelong resident of Cecil County and graduate of the College’s nursing degree program, Bolt has deep roots within the community. She currently serves on the Union Hospital board of directors as chair of the Board Quality committee. Bolt maintains a commitment to the region’s workforce needs and serves on the Cecil County Economic Development Commission, the Local Management Board, Upper Shore Regional Council’s Executive Board, Army Alliance, Northeast Maryland Technology Council, and the Susquehanna Workforce Network Board.
“As president of Cecil College, Dr. Bolt will provide leadership and direction to the college’s staff and faculty,” said Colenda. “She will continue to work with the community, county and state governments to ensure the college provides affordable and the highest quality possible to the students. Our future is bright as Cecil College moves forward with Dr. Bolt as our fifth president.”
Bolt leads the College into its 47th year and will continue to promote its growth and prominence in the region as a leading degree and continuing education institution. “The commitment the college has to this community, the passion of the faculty, staff and administration, and the leadership of our Board of Trustees affirms that this is the college I want to lead,” said Bolt. “I am certain with their support we will continue to expand the impact Cecil College has on citizens throughout northeastern Maryland.”
The selection concludes a search launched in March 2015 led by an eight-person Presidential Search Committee. Bolt was chosen after a rigorous search process that included 77 applicants from 27 states, and only five from Maryland.
Bolt received an associate’s degree in nursing from Cecil College and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She earned a master’s in community health nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore and a doctorate in higher education and leadership from Widener University. Her post-doctoral studies included the Harvard University Management Development Program. Bolt currently resides in Cecil County with her two children.
