CEI: Make Safety Personal to Sell Fleet Drivers on Policy
Trevose, PA (PRWEB) December 27, 2013 -- Rating fleet drivers, providing them with easy access to their driving history and explaining how their history is converted into their risk scores are keys to getting them to buy into a fleet safety policy, according to Brian Kinniry, CEI’s manager of risk and safety services.
Mr. Kinniry makes the remarks in the November-December 2013 issue of Fleet Financials magazine, in an article titled, “Smart Strategies for Promoting Your Fleet Safety Policy.” Among his recommendations:
• Create online “driver dashboards” that show drivers’ risk rating, their accident and violation history, and a link to the text of the safety policy. “The driver is able to go into his or her online dashboard at any time and review the fleet policy, check out their driving event history, and know exactly what’s required of them,” he notes. “This way, if they had…an accident, they would be directed to…learn about what the [safety] policy says…and find out what the next steps should be.”
• Require drivers to read and sign off on the fleet safety policy once a year.
• Send fleet drivers short video messages with statistics that document emerging fleet-wide accident trends and their impact on both drivers and the fleet sponsor, and relate the types of accidents to the safety policy. “Use that data to create messages that address those issues,” Kinniry recommends. “It could be that drivers aren’t aware of what the policy says about those types of events.
