Celebrate Sanitation for All on November 19th
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 18, 2013 -- On November 19, the first official World Toilet Day will be celebrated at the United Nations in New York, with UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson. Afterwards, WASH United, Toilet Hackers and the World Toilet Organization will organize a benefit for sanitation awareness at Mister H, a lounge in the Mondrian Hotel in Soho from 8pm – 11pm. Lets be thankful and come celebrate the toilets’ tireless service with us!
Did you know:
● One child dies every 17 seconds due to lack of sanitation, unclean water and poor hygiene.
● 1/3 of girls in Sub-Saharan Africa dropout of school once they start menstruating due to the lack of access to toilets at schools.
● Improved access to sanitation and hygiene could liberate 1/2 of the hospitals beds in Africa. 1/10 of the world illnesses are caused by poor sanitation, bad hygiene and unsafe water.
● According to the World Bank, poor sanitation may cost the global economy approx. 260 billion USD.
Berlin-based WASH United and the World Toilet Organization have assembled a dream team of partner organizations - including American Standard, German WASH Network, German Federal Foreign Office, Toilet Hackers, WaterAid, WASH Advocates, Water For People and WSSCC for the “Celebrate the Toilet!” campaign.
