Celebrate the Holiday Season in Franklin County, VA
Franklin County, VA (PRWEB) November 06, 2013 -- Revel in Blue Ridge traditions this holiday season at cheerful, family-friendly events in Franklin County.
Make merry memories at festivities including the Courthouse Tree Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 29, the Franklin County Christmas Parade on Dec. 1 and Come Home to a Franklin County Christmas on Dec. 6. Each event offers free admission and will be held in downtown Rocky Mount.
Usher in the season at the annual Courthouse Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 29 from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Located at 275 South Main Street, the ceremony will feature performances from the Benjamin Franklin Middle School Band, a Christmas Card Contest awards presentation and the lighting of the tree by the artist chosen as winner of the Overall Best Card category.
Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the event, which is presented by the Rocky Mount Community Partnership for Revitalization and Franklin County Parks and Recreation. For more information, call the Community Partnership for Revitalization at (540) 263-8319.
Join locals along Rocky Mount’s decorative downtown streets for the old-fashion Franklin County Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. Bring along a chair and cheer for creative floats as they compete under this year’s theme, “Christmas in the Country.” Float line-up will begin on Tanyard Road. ‘Tis the season for holly, jolly fun at the 10th Annual Come Home to a Franklin County Christmas event on Friday, Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. The event opens with the “Biggest Little Parade” in Franklin County, just as the streets are closed for the much-anticipated festival. The event also features horse-drawn carriage rides, music, dancing, an array of food and craft vendors, and more.
Headlining this year’s list of performers will be The Corey Hunley Band and Ashley Forrest, presented by the Harvester Performance Center, on stage at the Farmers’ Market. Also performing will be the Ferrum College Collegiates, the Benjamin Franklin Middle School Marching Band, dancers from the Blue Ridge Performing Arts Academy, and Aspen Black and Empowered who will perform on the “Jamin’ Along the Crooked Road” stage, located at The Franklin Center. In addition, the festival will feature a hot glass, wood burning demonstration at The Grainery, a Quilt Trail of Franklin County exhibit and an opportunity for patrons of all ages to Visit with Santa.
