Celebrating National Teen Driving Safety Awareness Week With A Complimentary Advanced Teenage Driver Training At Atlanta Motorsports Park
ATLANTA (PRWEB) October 12, 2017 -- Atlanta Motorsports Park (AMP) is joining the fight to save teen lives during National Teen Driving Safety Awareness Week (15-21 October 2017) by offering a complimentary one day teen driving course to a young driver from a low-income background, EVERY TIME a one-day program is purchased at full retail price ($295 pp).
AMP’s teen driving program - now operating under the new brand, Drive to Thrive Atlanta - provides Atlanta teenagers with a unique opportunity to learn life-saving advanced driving skills from professional instructors. Using its state of the art training facilities, including a world class skid pad and ice hill, AMP teaches advanced driving maneuvers that are not covered during traditional Drivers Education. Students of the teen program learn vital driving skills for life including wet weather, evasive and defensive handling skills as well as the dangers of distracted driving.
National Teen Driving Safety Awareness Week was established by Congress in 2007 to raise awareness for teen safe driving issues. Motor vehicle crashes remain the primary cause of death for adolescents in America and teen drivers are involved in fatal crashes at four times the rate of adult drivers. Each year, more than 5,000 teens are killed in motor vehicle crashes.
To promote National Teen Driving Safety Awareness Week, Drive to Thrive Atlanta will organize a series of activities as follows:
1. 16 October: Press day at AMP where members of the media are invited to participate in hands on driving exercises and find out more about the vital work of the Drive to Thrive Atlanta initiative.
2. 17-20 October: Drive to Thrive Atlanta Roadshow visits schools in Forsyth, Fulton and Gwinnett counties (TBC) showcasing advanced driving techniques combined with fun activities and giveaways.
3. 21 October: Fun teen safety awareness event to coincide with the Legends and Bandaleros Race at AMP where drivers as young as 8-years-old come from all over the nation to battle it out in different classes for the right to be called champion. Car control and respect for speed is a must for the budding race drivers of tomorrow. Teenagers from across Atlanta will have the chance to spectate the race, meet the drivers and understand why fast driving occurs in controlled environments only, supported by advanced driver training and superior vehicle knowledge.
AMP last week announced its plan to establish Drive to Thrive Atlanta as a separate non-profit organization dedicated to saving teen lives by making advanced driver training accessible to every teen driver in the city and surrounding areas. It plans to work in partnership with venues and companies across Atlanta to protect the community’s most vulnerable drivers at a time when driving is more dangerous than ever due to the perils of distracted driving.
Jeremy Porter, CEO of Atlanta Motorsports Park, founded the teen driving program in 2012 as part of a personal mission to protect society’s youngest drivers after being involved in an accident as a teenager that broke his back and left his co-passengers in the ICU. The program has serviced more than 500 participants since its launch.
Jeremy adds: “The launch of Drive to Thrive Atlanta represents an exciting evolution of AMP’s teen school and we feel privileged to be able to make an impact in our community by offering complimentary one-day scholarships to kids who might otherwise never receive this kind of training.
