Centegra Receives Final Approval for New Hospital in Huntley Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board Approved Plan July 24, 2012
Huntley, IL (PRWEB) December 20, 2013 -- Nearly three years to the day of announcing plans to build a new hospital in Huntley, Centegra Health System leaders received the final necessary approval during a Huntley Village Board meeting Dec. 19.
At the meeting, village trustees approved the final Planned Unit Development (PUD) for the 128-bed Centegra Hospital-Huntley. The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved Centegra’s plan for the new hospital July 24, 2012. Centegra Hospital-Huntley is only the second new hospital to be approved in the state of Illinois in the past 30 years.
On Dec. 20, 2010, Centegra Health System Chief Executive Officer Michael S. Eesley told a group of supporters, “Additional services are needed in the southern McHenry County and northern Kane County area and Centegra is the health system best suited to provide these services.”
At that time, Eesley pledged to collaborate with the village of Huntley to provide convenient health care services to the local residents. He said, “As the largest health care provider in McHenry County, it is our responsibility to always look for ways to improve the care we provide to those who rely on us. We are invested in this region and we are excited to play an active role in its growth in the years to come.”
Three years later, Huntley Mayor Chuck Sass thanked Centegra leaders for their perseverance and unwavering dedication to the project.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with you on this important asset to our community,” Sass said. “You remained focused on what’s best for the people of our region. You’ve been an outstanding partner and we look forward to many years of new quality health care services right in our own backyard.”
In addition to village trustee support, the project generated widespread support from local residents. More than 16,000 community members submitted letters to the state expressing their support for the project.
When completed, the hospital will feature 100 medical surgical beds, an eight-bed Intensive Care Unit, a full-service emergency department with a Level II trauma center, Level II special care nursery, non-invasive cardiology services, a helipad for transporting patients with the most critical needs and a dedicated women’s center with 20 private obstetric rooms.
The facility will be located on Centegra’s existing health and wellness campus at Reed and Haligus Roads. The campus currently includes an outpatient health center featuring Centegra Immediate Care, an advanced imaging center, physician offices and Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center.
It is anticipated that Centegra Hospital-Huntley will treat its first patients in 2016 and employ more than 1,000 area residents. Construction will begin in the spring and a public groundbreaking event is scheduled for July.
