Shreveport, LA (PRWEB) October 24, 2013 -- The Centenary College Choir presents Rhapsody in View at the Riverview Theater November 2-3. Co-sponsored by the Downtown Lions Club, Rhapsody in View is an annual tradition dating back to 1949.

• When: Saturday, November 2, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 3, at 2:30 p.m.

This year’s Rhapsody in View program explores a musical journey of creation with the theme, There and Back Again. Highlights include Rene Clausen’s “All that Hath Life and Breath,” Rosephanye Powell’s “The Word was God,” Eric Barnum’s ethereal “Dawn,” and Tom Scott's dramatic “The Creation.” Two spirituals offer a glimpse of God’s people crying out in the wilderness: Moses Hogan’s robust “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel” and Mack Wilberg’s exquisite “Deep River.” The Choir will also present sets from two Broadway musicals: Stephen Schwart's Children of Eden and Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, as well as other crowd favorites. There is something for everyone at Rhapsody.
The Shreveport Downtown Lions Club has co-sponsored the event since its inception. This year's proceeds will help fund sight conservation, Lions Eye Research Foundation, the Northwest Louisiana Lions Eye Bank, and the Lions Camp near Leesville, LA.
Hailed as "America's Singing Ambassadors," the Centenary Choir has traveled the world for seven decades, constantly exploring new and productive avenues in the world of collegiate choral music. This innovative spirit is evident in the Choir's unique and diverse programming, a repertoire that ranges from Bach to Broadway, world folk music to contemporary church music, and oratorio to opera.
*Tickets are available from members of the Choir, the Hurley School of Music on the Centenary campus, all Porter's Cleaners locations, any Downtown Shreveport Lions Club member, or by contacting 318.869.5235.
