Centenary Named Tier One for Third Straight Year
Shreveport, LA (PRWEB) September 10, 2013 -- Centenary College was named a Tier One National Liberal Arts College for the third year in a row in the 2014 U.S. News & World Report ranking released today.
“I am excited about Centenary's Tier One ranking,” said Centenary senior Keaton Roberson. “My professors have always pushed me to examine the world around me and apply what I've learned to the real world. My academic coursework has been challenging, but I think my experience has paved the way for my success."
This year, Centenary again joins other members of the Associated Colleges of the South in the top tier, including Sewanee, Southwestern, and Rhodes. The colleges recognized in the U.S. News ranking emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the arts and sciences.
“The transformational Centenary experience focuses on developing our students to tap into their passions for a common purpose—to make a difference in the world,” said Centenary President David Rowe. “I’m very grateful for the equally passionate commitment of our faculty and staff to helping students become graduates who engage the global challenges of the twenty-first century. The first-year students of the Class of 2017 are the first to experience and help shape Centenary’s World Houses, each a common residence with a common purpose where students explore some of the world’s greatest needs. On August 19, World House students joined three Shreveport-area community organizations for a day of service before their classes began. World Houses are part of Centenary Leadership, a nationally acclaimed student development model that helps every student develop leadership skills in tandem with their academic experiences in the classroom.
“Centenary offers a distinctly different experience for students who want to lead and make a difference in the world around them,” said Tommy Newton, Director of Admission. “We’ve heard from high school students that they want to get engaged right away, and that’s what Centenary provides from the time students step onto our campus.”
Each year, U.S. News & World Report publishes the national rankings to provide reliable and consistent data to help prospective students and their families in their college search.
The U.S. News ranking follows several other honors Centenary has received in the past several weeks:
• Forbes gave Centenary an “A” grade for financial fitness in its annual ranking of “America’s Top Colleges.”
• Washington Monthly recognized Centenary for the fourth straight year in making a significant contribution to the public good.
• Princeton Review named Centenary one of “The Best 378 Colleges” in the nation.
