Center for Autism and Related Disorders' Announces Year-Round Autism Awareness Events and Training
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. (PRWEB) June 06, 2018 -- Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) has announced that events traditionally held during April’s Autism Awareness month will continue throughout the year. CARD hosted multiple events in honor of Autism Awareness Month, including first-responder training and educational and recreational events for the autism community. Events are intended to increase autism awareness and acceptance, offer training for various community members, and expand recreational options for families to experience fun activities in a safe environment. The events are part of a larger commitment from CARD to advance knowledge and awareness of ASD.
Among the events in April were NYC Football Club Autism Awareness Day and Westchester Knicks Autism Speaks Night, two events that provided an opportunity for those with autism and their families to see a game and also raise money for research. CARD held additional events with the New York Mets and Children's Museum of Green Bay. Many CARD locations also hosted first-responder training to ensure that police and fire fighters recognize symptoms of autism spectrum disorder and understand how to communicate effectively in an emergency.
"Autism Awareness Month is very important for our community and gives us an opportunity to focus on our families’ needs more broadly," said Doreen Granpeesheh, PhD, BCBA-D, founder and executive director of CARD. "Though Autism Awareness Month is over, the need for information, support, and activities is ongoing, and we are committed to continuing these events throughout the year."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that one in every 59 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with ASD. To learn more about autism or to find an event near you, visit our website.
