Center For Discovery Expert co-authors research on adolescent anorexia nervosa
Los Alamitos, CA (PRWEB) January 10, 2017 -- Kelsey Latimer, PhD, LP, CEDS-S, Regional Director of Center For Discovery’s Florida Outpatient programs has co-authored a paper published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research. “I am honored to have this paper recognized by the journal and am grateful to my co-authors, specifically Dr. McAdams, for inviting me to be a part of this critical area of research,” stated Latimer. The paper, titled “Neural activations are related to body-shape, anxiety, and outcomes in adolescent anorexia nervosa,” provides support that neural differences in social self-evaluation are potentially clinically relevant in adolescents with anorexia nervosa This is particularly notable given that anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that often begins during adolescence.
Dr. Latimer continues, “The paper suggests that adolescents who struggle with anorexia nervosa appear to show differences in regions of the brain associated with social evaluation as compared with healthy controls, with these differences having an impact on the experience of anxiety and body shape evaluation. This is critically important because this information may have clinical value in guiding future treatments as we learn more about these outcomes.”
“The entire Center for Discovery family joins me in acknowledging Kelsey’s contribution to the eating disorder community. Her research informs and supports our clinicians in providing evidence-based treatment to individuals and families who struggle with anorexia,” said Dawn Delgado, National Director of Outpatient Services at Center for Discovery. Delgado continued, “We are grateful to Kelsey for her expertise and passion which she brings to our organization and to the many clients and families who are privileged to work with her.”
According to the National Eating Disorders Association, eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses and Center For Discovery is proud to make such services available to families, professionals and insurance organizations.
