Cerealus Announces Patent Approval for Ceregel®
Waterville, ME (PRWEB) November 13, 2016 -- Cerealus is pleased to announce the USPO patent approval for Ceregel®, a novel dry strength technology, which enables paper and board mills to increase strength. With the added strength, mills can attain economic savings and productivity improvements, including:
• Reduce basis weight in cellulose packaging applications
• Increase usage of less costly fiber
• Increased stiffness
• Improve printability
• Increase usage of nanocellulose
• Increase use of ash
• Replace costly pigments e.g. TiO2
Ceregel® is an innovative encapsulation process, which enables mills to efficiently increase starch usage. Mills can cost effectively leverage the increased strength to achieve economic and performance benefits. Ceregel® can treat every form of pulp fiber, including recycled fiber, chemical pulp, semi-chemical, and groundwood, while maintain specified strength and paper qualities.
Cerealus envisions broad and global market appeal as board mills seek reductions in weight of paperboard grades, with a combination of engineered design and process improvements, such as Ceregel®.
The patent is labeled as “Filler composition and method of producing composite materials” and is USPTO 9458570. The patent is applicable for paper and paperboard and is briefly described as “produced by reacting a filler material with a binder and a reactant material”.
Cerealus collaborated with The University of Maine Process Development Center to create this novel technology. With this patent approval, UMaine continues to be an industry leader in innovative technologies for Paper and Forestry. Evidence of UMaine’s leadership, UMaine PDC operates a nanocellolose (microfibrillated cellulose) pilot plant, capable of producing a ton per day of product. This pilot plant is the only one of its kind in the nation.
Prior to Ceregel’s® US patent approval, Cerealus achieved patent approval in China, Korea, and Eurasia. The UMaine co-inventors for the Ceregel(R)patent are Michael A. Bilodeau and Mark Paradis.
