CereScan Kicks Off Brain Injury Awareness Month with No Cost qEEGs
Denver, CO (PRWEB) February 29, 2016 -- In honor of Brain Injury Awareness Month, CereScan, the nation’s leader in providing statistically measured brain diagnostics, is taking steps to increase awareness about brain injuries by offering a discounted comprehensive brain diagnostic package to patients.
During the month of March, CereScan will offer free qEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalography) brain mapping – a $900 value --- with every qSPECT brain scan appointment at its metro Denver location. The company will also provide free brain injury consultations to those concerned about lingering symptoms from past concussions.
QEEG brain mapping is the latest diagnostic service to be offered by CereScan. In conjunction with the company’s qSPECT functional brain imaging, the two procedures provide a comprehensive look into how the brain is functioning. While SPECT imaging measures perfusion patterns (bloodflow) and pinpoints problem areas below the cortex, qEEG measures cortical electrical activity by measuring brainwaves.

“CereScan’s commitment to furthering awareness and providing hope to those suffering from traumatic brain injuries is incredibly inspiring and strong,” says John Kelley, CEO of CereScan. “Finding an answer for the women and men fighting these invisible wounds should be a priority every day of the year.”
Each year, nearly 1.7 million emergency department visits, hospitalizations or deaths are associated with traumatic brain injury, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, due to varying definitions and possible under-reporting, the exact rate at which concussions or mild traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) happen annually in the United States is not accurately known. CDC experts estimate as many as 3.8 million sports and recreation-related TBIs occur every year.
Traumatic brain injuries can affect the functionality of the brain and many times lead to psychological issues, such as nervousness, irritability, depression and mood swings. Due to the variety of symptoms that can result from a TBI, the condition is commonly misdiagnosed.

That’s where CereScan can make all the difference. CereScan’s qSPECT imaging technology goes beyond traditional diagnostic tools to review cerebral blood flow and cellular processes that help accurately diagnose traumatic brain injuries, helping physicians and patients create an effective treatment plan.
The company has been on the front lines in the identification and treatment of TBI through its Invisible Brain Injury Project in partnership with the Tug McGraw Foundation. In the study, CereScan first helped former military members assess the extent of their brain injury and then determine the efficacy of a new therapy by providing pre- and post-measurements and statistical analysis.
CereScan joins the Tug McGraw Foundation and the Colorado Neurological Institute to promote awareness about brain injury prevention, recognition and response.
