CES Supports Single Moms by Sponsoring Mothers of Minors Event
Tampa Bay, FL (PRWEB) September 10, 2015 -- As part of the mission of Consumer Energy Solutions (CES) to promotion of social betterment activities, the Tampa Bay-based full-service energy consulting company organized the M.O.M. Showers of Love Baby Shower to benefit Mothers of Minors (M.O.M.). Run by Andrea Clark, M.O.M. is a non-profit charitable organization based in Clearwater, Florida that strives to provide various services to the elderly, disabled, and low income individuals with an emphasis on single parent homes. CES worked in partnership with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Neighborhood Center and the Community Learning Center in order to put on the event which was held on July 25.
One in four children (approximately 17.4 million) are raised without a father. Nearly half of those children are raised below the poverty line, which is about $9,900 for a family of three – or a weekly family budget of about $200. In 2013, the median income for single-mother families was $26,000, which is one third of the median income for married couple families, which was $84,000. Only one third of all single mothers receive child support. The average child support is only approximately $430 a month. (1)
As a single mother of four children, Clark understands the struggle many of these women face on a daily basis. Clark never received a baby shower while she was pregnant with any of her four children. By hosting a baby shower in conjunction with CES, Clark was able to give struggling mothers the experience she never had. The Baby Shower included shower games, good food, desserts, door prizes and showers of gifts for the new baby. Several speakers imparted motivational words on parenting and success. Speakers included professional fighter Noemi Boesques and CES Director of Community Relations Lynn Posyton.
“We felt as if working with M.O.M. would be a great way to align with a like-minded group,” says Posyton. “We made sure that each mom had a true shower experience with games, prizes and all the classic shower gifts.” CES involvement included help in planning, collection of items, sponsoring the event, and providing volunteers.
Each mother also received a goodie bag to help her in life. Goodie bags included smaller baby items as well as a common sense guide to morals and good decisions called Making Good Choices and the DVD The Way to Happiness, along with the full packet of drug-education booklets on the Truth about Drugs from the Foundation for a Drug-Free World.
CES makes it a point to integrate the promotion of social betterment activities into the company's business model. In 2014, CES employees were honored with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for their efforts. Currently, CES sponsors the Community Learning Center (CLC) based in Clearwater. The CLC offers free and affordable tutoring to the community. Its mission is to improve the lives of children and families through effective education, inspiration and creativity, by making learning fun, relevant and a lifelong activity.
Additionally, CES has made it a mission to impart a strong drug-free message to the community by participating in the Foundation for a Drug-Free World's educational programs. The Foundation for a Drug-Free World seeks to empower youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free. Posyton has personally reached out to and delivered the anti-drug messages to groups including the Boys Club of America and Admiral Farragut Academy. Posyton also represented CES at the Great American Teach-In.
“At CES, we like to operate on the phrase, ‘Find like-minded people and groups and get to work making good things happen,’” says Posyton. “There's nothing more rewarding than aligning with other betterment groups and seeing the changes you are making in the community together.”
