Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs and Secretary of Veterans Affairs to Speak at Warrior-Family Symposium
Alexandria, Va. (PRWEB) July 27, 2015 -- Sen. Johnny Isakson of Georgia, chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, will join Robert A. McDonald, secretary of Veterans Affairs, as distinguished speakers at the 2015 Warrior-Family Symposium (WFS) Wednesday, Sept. 9, in Washington. The event, “Our Nation’s Military: Caring for Our Own,” is cosponsored by the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and the Wounded Warrior Project and examines the nation’s collective responsibility and commitment to improve the mental wellness of service members and veterans and their families.
The WFS will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. (registration opens at 7:30 a.m.). Isakson will speak at 8:50 a.m., and McDonald will deliver the closing remarks at 2:30 p.m.
Morning and afternoon panel discussions will focus on two key questions surrounding the issue of warrior-family mental wellness:
• How has the government moved the needle forward in improving the well-being and care of the nation’s service members and veterans and their families and caregivers?
• As a nation, how and what do we need to do to further deliver quality mental health care for warrior-family needs within the next five years?
Following each panel, industry experts will join audience members for an interactive, in-depth dialogue. Panelists and speaker biographies can be viewed at http://bit.ly/1OoriaF.
The master of ceremonies is Brian Delate, TV, film and Broadway actor; award-winning screenwriter; filmmaker (“Soldier’s Heart”); Vietnam veteran; and playwright (“Memorial Day”).
The morning and afternoon panels are
