Chalk & Wire Unveils Extended Career Access ePortfolio Pledge
Ridgeway, Ontario (PRWEB) September 21, 2015 -- Affecting hundreds of thousands of students, higher education assessment provider Chalk & Wire announced today a Career Access pledge regarding its ePortfolio product. Students who have used the current version of the ePortfolio authoring tool can access their ePortfolios within Chalk & Wire after they have left an institution at no cost. Effective October 31, 2015, Chalk & Wire is the first assessment provider to offer continued ePortfolio access to both universities and students.
Acting as an agent of change on behalf of universities and students, Chalk & Wire made the Career Access ePortfolio pledge for the following reasons:
1. Students have the right to access their university work and files indefinitely as they own them. Institutions already have access to this data without restriction and so should students.
2. The need to demonstrate competency and the ability to learn does not end with graduation –
it’s a life-long requirement.
3. Institutions want to follow their students off campus to research student experiences to help guide decisions that will affect future learners. This applies equally to alumni who completed degrees and those who did not.
4. Schools and employers need a bridge to support their dialogue through the people they have in common: students.
In previewing the pledge at The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation Conference in Washington, D.C. last week, Chalk & Wire CEO Geoff Irvine said, “It’s our hope that this offer will ignite a conversation between institutions, their students and others that to date has been sporadic and unnatural at best. We want to use this initiative to create partnerships between Chalk & Wire’s research group and the organizations we serve to expand our initiatives to aid student success. Such research will shed light on the variables that enhance student success beyond formal education and will also build a two-way bridge with students who have ended their time in formal studies.”
After October 31, 2015, with Chalk & Wire’s ePortfolios in the current version of the software, students with expired accounts who have left their schools will be able to:
• Download their files.
• Download clean, correctly paginated PDF versions of any ePortfolio with all links working.
• Download HTML website versions of any ePortfolio complete with its elegant visual theme and navigation for local use or placement on other websites.
• Edit current ePortfolios and author new ones for any purpose.
• Link their ePortfolios automatically to email and social media such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter.
• Securely share their ePortfolios with anyone for comment and review.
• Take advantage of Chalk & Wire’s mobile device display to extend the scope of their audience.
Institutions will be able to:
• Send custom surveys and forms through Chalk & Wire to their students to gather data about post-school experiences.
• Invite students to participate in Chalk & Wire Collaborative Workspaces with faculty, staff and any external parties such as employers, organizations and even other institutions.
• Expand the circle of support for their students.
• Invite employers and other stakeholders known to the students into a dialogue about life-long learning using Chalk & Wire’s tools.
• Conduct publishable, collaborative research studies using Chalk & Wire’s assessment platform to study institutional effectiveness and its relationship to life beyond school.
Chalk & Wire will support formal studies that may involve uploading new files and artifacts as part of any action or pure research initiative for up to two years after students cease to be enrolled in their respective institutions. Depending on the proposal, more time may be granted. Some restrictions to the amount of free storage space may apply on a case-by-case basis.
