Champlain College Introduces New Human Resources Management Program
Montreal, QC (PRWEB) October 23, 2013 -- Champlain College Saint-Lambert is pleased to announce the offering of a unique new program in Human Resources Management. This field is undergoing tremendous change in Quebec, moving from a job function that has traditionally been more transactional to one that is increasingly essential for helping organizations transform business goals and key objectives. Champlain College Saint-Lambert is the first college to offer a 3-year Diplôme d'études collégiales (DEC) in this type of program where the majority of courses are Human Resources based.
Before developing the program's design and specific curriculum, Champlain College Saint-Lambert used external industry practitioners to validate its viability. The effective management of an organization's human resources is now recognized as a critical component of business success, leading to a demand for trained and qualified HR professionals that is not currently being met at the cegep level. Over the next 10 years, Futures Canada projects a significant shortage of workers in this occupational group. It is expected that the number of job seekers will continue to be insufficient to fill requirements resulting from expanded demand.
This program has been designed for students pursuing careers in Human Resources Management with a specialization in recruitment. The human capital management strategies employed include the use of databases, statistical models and the analytical skills that drive key resource management decisions, as well as specialized skills involving web-based and social media technologies. The college emphasizes the need for proficiency in both official languages prior to beginning the program. Bilingualism is an important requirement for most human resources employment in Quebec.
The first year of the program will provide students with a foundation in fundamental business concepts with a focus on Human Resources. The second year examines the key facets of Human Resources Management, which will be further contextualized in the third year through field work and study. The third year will also see an emphasis on ethical scrutiny, corporate sustainability, emerging technologies, and the assessment of the value of human capital activities. In addition to classroom instruction, students will be able to benefit from the practical experience of running an on-campus summer work centre and managing social media hubs for the program. Active learning methods and intense skills practice are integrated to ensure that students have the necessary professional expertise to enter the job market.
Champlain College Saint-Lambert is recognized in the cegep network and by MERST for offering unique programs, including Sport Marketing and Management, Criminology, and World Studies. Visitors can learn more about its programs at the upcoming Open House, which will take place on Sunday, November 3, between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
