Changes in Administration to Lead Movement of Innovation into Practice at the Water Environment Research Foundation
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) April 25, 2014 -- The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) has announced the appointment of Dr. Daniel Woltering as WERF Interim Executive Director following a determination that the organization would benefit from a change of leadership as WERF reaches its 25-year anniversary and increases its emphasis on "moving innovation into practice."
The Board joins the staff, and over 1000 WERF volunteers and Subscribers, in thanking former Executive Director Glenn Reinhardt for his 25 years of leadership and commitment to WERF. "We are fortunate to have such a capable leader able to step in," said WERF Chairman, Catherine Gerali. "The WERF Board has complete confidence that Dr. Woltering’s in-depth knowledge of the organization, its research portfolio, its volunteers, and Subscribers, as well as the staff, will enable a smooth transition and continued growth of WERF’s research portfolio until the search for a permanent replacement is complete."
Dr. Woltering has served as WERF’s Director of Research since 2003, coordinating the interface between identifying research needs, conducting research, and communicating the findings to end users so that the research can be put to best use. Prior to that assignment, Dr. Woltering spent 30 years in environmental (primarily water-related) research, issue identification and problem solving, program and project management, as well as organization leadership. Dr. Woltering’s former employers include ENVIRON International Corporation in Arlington, Virginia and The Procter & Gamble Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Woltering holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology from Oregon State University. He served as the President of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) in 1997 and served on its Board of Directors from 1991 to 1998. Dr. Woltering was recognized by AAEES in its inaugural group of board certified environmental scientists (BCES) by eminence in 2013.
"The WERF Board is very enthusiastic about the research portfolio currently underway and the initiatives planned for the coming year,” Gerali said. "Examples include over twenty new resource recovery research projects, and additional Technology Scans through the Leaders Innovation Forum for Technology (LIFT) helping WERF Subscribers move innovative processes and technologies into practice at water resource recovery, water reclamation, and stormwater handling facilities of all sizes and kinds. The Board remains committed to building on existing partnerships, creating new partnerships, and continuing to further the WERF mission."
