Changing Lives Through the Gift of a Smile
Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) July 22, 2013 -- On Wednesday, July 24th between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m., Jared along with three other young people, Luke, Ricio and McKenzie will be presented the gift of a smile by Drs. Chad Watts & Jenee Kaplan at Rangewood Orthodontics, 7560 Rangewood Dr. Ste. 200, C.S., CO 80920.
The S4L program is run by a local board of directors that review applications, select candidates and award scholarships. While the doctors are the orthodontic providers for the foundation, they do not serve on the Board but rather serve as advisors.
The local chapter was founded in 2011 as a way to reach those in need. “To be able to provide this service for someone who doesn’t have the means is very special. I hope through our work with the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation we can encourage others to do something for someone else. We feel very fortunate to be a part of this program,” Dr. Jenee Kaplan.
Many of the children served by local S4L programs have been socially bullied or ostracized because of their smiles. Others like Jared, experience pain, have issues with speech or even digestive problems. With the S4L scholarship and early Phase I treatment, Jared will be able to avoid future surgery and live pain free.
Dr. Chad Watts shares, “I love watching my patients develop confidence and smile more. Serving with S4L allows us to create self-confidence, inspire hope and change the lives of children in a dramatic way…“who otherwise would not have the opportunity".
Just as the doctors are "paying it forward" in their community, each scholar will be ask to commit to ten hours of community service during the course of their treatment. Paying it forward is an important part of the program by connecting young people with their communities and the needs of others future philanthropists are born.
The Rangewood Orthodontics S4L Chapter is currently taking applications to serve children 8-18 years of age. For more detailed information regarding applicant qualifications please click here. NOTE: The application process is competitive.
